Our group at the Duomo di Siena |
Our group took a bus to the Mediaval hill town of Siena where our guide Reggina walked us up and down narrow cobblestone streets with an crash course on the history of the city's patron saint (Catherine), contrade (rival neighborhoods), wealthy banking families, palaces, churches, city hall, artists, and the Piazza del Campo where a horse race is run every July. After our walking tour and lunch, our students spent time drawing in sketchbooks at locations throughout the city.
