Day 11: Oltrarno Walking Tour

Day 11: Oltrarno Walking Tour
This Friday, Andy lead a walking tour South of the Arno River (Oltrarno).  The Oltrarno is famous for its artizen studios.  We met up at the Ponte Vecchio and walked to Il Papiro, a store specializing in letterpress and marblized paper goods. The store owner did a short demonstration on marblizing paper and we got a few sheets to work with later in the studios.  Then we got a gelato and walked to Il Torchio, where owner Erin Ciulla showed us her book binding shop. Then a stop at the shop of street artist Clet who has made a strong impact on Florence's pedestrian landscape.  Next we stopped at Ditta Carlo Cecchi where master metalsmith Giuliano Ricchi showed demonstrated the tools and processes he uses to make small decorative metal objects that are plated and enameled.  Finally we made brief visits to the churches of Santo Spirito and Santa Felicita where there are artworks of Michelangelo and Pontormo respectively.
