Day 20-21: Weekend adventures (Part 1)

This weekend students traveled to various locations including Rome, Naples, and Portovenere while others explored more in Florence and worked on monotypes in the studios...the following post shows the activities of our students who stayed in Florence...

Saturday afternoon marked the beginning of the Calcio Storico Fiorentina, a series of festivities and competitions between the neighborhoods of Florence.  This weekend began a series of parades with costume, flags, music, and pageantry.  These parades are a sort of pep rally for the start of a series of play-off matches between the neighborhoods of Florence.  The game is a sort of mix of no-holds barred team wrestling meets rugby and football played in the Piazza Santa Croce. Michelle and Kate went to the Calcio Storico match where San Giovanni (green team) defeated the of San Spirito (white team).
